Happiness is for everyone - including chickens

Cluck of the Irish

Why happy chickens?

Chicken tastes good. Irish chicken tastes better. But happy, Irish chicken? Now, that's the stuff! We're on a mission to bring better-cared-for Irish chicken to Irish restaurants and takeaways. Our happy, Irish chickens live a healthy life with nutritious feed, plenty of room to grow, and loads of time for exercise.

Bord Bia Ireland

Now, let's get down to business! The Happy Chicken Project is a global movement that originated in Denmark and just landed right here in Ireland, where we're breeding better chickens for a better life. And that's simply because we believe that working for better animal welfare is the right thing to do. But we're also here for you; we want to help you make a healthier, tastier and more responsible choice when you go for a take-away or when you go out to eat.

To keep our chickens happy and healthy, we give them nutritious feed that we create ourselves in our own feed mill in Co. Cavan, using all that good Irish stuff like rapeseed, Irish wheat, oats and barley. But that's only a part of the story. We know that having the freedom and conditions to express their natural behaviour is what keeps chickens happy, so that's exactly what we give them.

Did you find yourself nodding along as you read all that? Thought you might. Join our movement and help support happy chickens today.

Irish free range chicken

Our free range chickens are free birds with free access to nature, sunlight and wholegrain feed. Happy chickens with wind under their wings.

An “Irish free range chicken” enjoys a life that many chickens would love. The chickens grow and thrive in safe and healthy surroundings with plenty of space to roam and spread their wings, and a lot of thrilling exercise activities. They choose themselves when they want to eat and drink and whether they want to be chilling indoors or outdoors on green grass, exploring the world. The chickens are allowed to grow at their natural rhythm - they grow stronger, healthier and happier. They eat wholegrain, healthy feed which gives them lots of energy and plenty of nutrition.

Irish Classic Chicken

Our classic chickens are slow-growing, happy chickens living that chilled life. They grow nice and slow, just as nature intended.

Born and raised on the same Irish farm, our classic chickens are happy out in their comfortable and familiar surroundings. This familiarity allows them to grow and thrive in a safe and healthy environment with plenty of space to roam and spread their wings. They also thrive on our delicious, super-nutritious feed. Great-tasting chicken really is no accident. After all, nothing beats a classic!
